REGION

San Bonifacio is one of the Verona area’s most famous ancient villages, a prominent feature of the Roman Empire and in the Middle Ages home to the San Bonifacio Counts. Its landscape is characterized by the presence of archetypal Venetian villas, like Thiene, built at the end of the fifteenth century and the villas Carlotti and Malfatti, which date to around 1700. The regions most profound economic and cultural changes came with the Lobardia-Veneto railroad in 1850. San Bonifacio benefited immensely from this new traffic. It connected the city to neighboring municipalities and the more metropolitan cities of Verona, Venice and Milan.
